Ok…glad I got that out…now, moving on….

February 22

Moving day.

We left Alamogordo and headed north to Albuquerque, stopping in Socorro to charge. We dropped the trailer, grabbed lunch, and somehow turned Sonic into a full happy hour situation.

Once we got into town, we headed straight to Cal’s Aunt Susie and Uncle David’s house for dinner. The kids had spaghetti, we had London broil, and it felt really good to be around family for the night.

We also got to see cousin Nolan and their dog Frannie. Nolan took the kids over to Wells Park — walking distance from the house — and they thought that was the coolest thing ever.

February 23

School in the morning, then haircuts.

Bethan decided to go all in and cut most of her hair off. When the emotions started hitting, Meagan made a last-minute decision and cut hers too. We ended up mailing in both 12-inch ponytails to Locks of Love, which made the whole thing feel a little more meaningful.

Later, we met up with Aunt Susie and Uncle David at the camper and got to show them our setup.

In the afternoon, we headed to the Petroglyphs and did a short hike before heading back for sloppy joes at the RV.

February 24

The kids and Meagan went to the Nuclear Museum.

While Meg was checking in, they found these Einstein spinning tops and were completely locked in. At one point, someone asked Bethan if they were part of a field trip or with a parent, and she genuinely didn’t know how to answer.

There were several school groups there, but it was fun doing it at our own pace.

We called Geege while we were walking through, and it was pretty cool realizing she was heading to the same base we were reading about in the exhibits.

After that, we hit Costco for the first time since Marble Falls — which felt like a big reset.

Dinner was with family at El Pinto, and Claire showed up with our new washer, which felt like a major upgrade to RV life.

February 25

The kids and Meagan went to Explora — easily one of the best hands-on museums we’ve been to. They could’ve stayed all day.

We grabbed lunch at Little Anita’s, then tried to make it to the Rattlesnake Museum, but it was closed for maintenance. We walked around Old Town for a bit instead.

Back at the RV, Cal went out hunting for a plumbing part while we settled in.

Dinner was an eat-on-the-couch kind of night — we tried out a chicken and rice combo and even tested a new TikTok workout.

February 26

The kids and Meagan spent the morning at the BioPark Zoo and somehow had most of it to ourselves. The weather was perfect — one of those easy days where everything just works.

I went and got my hair cleaned up at Lavish Salon later in the day.

Dinner was a frozen lo mein meal from Walmart. Nothing fancy, but it got the job done.

February 27

Claire took the day off, so we met up with everyone at Susie and David’s.

We walked to New Mexico Beef Jerky and picked up burritos that absolutely lived up to the hype. Then we drove up the backside of the Sandia Mountains, climbing up to about 10,400 feet — the highest elevation the kids have ever been.

There was snow and a lot of cold wind, so we skipped the hike and just ate burritos in the parking area, which honestly worked out great.

On the way back, we found a massive playground with an oversized slide and stayed there way longer than expected.

That night we regrouped for dinner — grilled chicken and potatoes — and the kids settled in playing The Stanley Parable.

Cal and Meg slipped out with Claire and Nolan to a speakeasy and walked along Route 66 for a bit.

February 28

Quick Walmart stop in the morning for new bike tires, then we headed out for a long ride through Albuquerque to Bike In Coffee with Aunt Susie and Aunt Claire.

Along the way we stopped to check out a massive steam locomotive, and Pepper and Claire’s dog Crash got to run around near the river.

Dinner was Dion’s pizza, followed by hanging out with Claire and Nolan back at the RV.

March 1

Cal started the day with pickleball with Aunt Susie.

The kids and Meagan met up with them afterward at the park, where we somehow ended up eating chicharrones for breakfast. The kids spent most of the time pretending they were on the Titanic, with Jude proudly declaring they were the troublemakers.

We walked over to Rio Bravo Brewery for lunch, then Claire and Meg did a little shopping — Trader Joe’s and Costco, hard to beat.

Dinner was leftover Dion’s pizza.

March 2

Travel day.

We packed up and left Albuquerque, heading toward Ghost Ranch.
