February 13

We made it to Edgington RV Park, grabbed dinner at Pizza 9’s, and then did a grocery run before calling it.

February 14

Valentine’s Day started exactly how you’d picture it, at a laundromat.

We found a solid spot in Tularosa and somehow managed to claim about ten machines and knock everything out in one go. While laundry was spinning, Cal took the kids on a donut run to Yum Yums. Strong start to the day.

From there we went exploring. We hiked out to Devil’s Veil Falls and spotted a giant print in the trail that definitely sparked some theories. Then we drove up to Cloudcroft hoping for snow… nothing. Just cold air and bare ground.

We grabbed a new bag of coffee since our San Antonio stash is running low, then hit the Tunnel Trail. Jude fell straight into the water at one point, and Cal ended up helping a couple people navigate a tricky rock section near the end.

Back at the RV, we leaned into Valentine’s Day, Enchanted on the TV, Bethan gave a quick presentation, and Cal made chicken parmesan. Chocolate-covered strawberries sealed it.

February 15

Slow morning, reading, coffee, and working on bike tires.

We drove over to Desert Foothills Park and did a couple loops, then spent most of the day just hanging around the campground.

Bethan caught up with her friend Evé, and Jude made a new friend, which pretty much made his day.

Sunset was solid, and we kept dinner easy with an eat-on-the-couch kind of night.

February 16

Presidents’ Day at White Sands.

We picked a dune, claimed it as ours, and set up for a picnic. After that it was barefoot walking, football throws, and a lot of dune sledding.

On the way back, we stopped at PistachioLand and went all in on oversized waffle cones.

No regrets.

February 17

Half day of school, then a pretty easy afternoon around the park, swings, ducks, and a steady wind that never really let up.

We made a Walmart stop just to move around a bit, then headed to DH Lescombes for dinner. The Santa Fe pasta was legit, sun-dried tomatoes and Hatch chiles in an Alfredo.

Jude had crème brûlée for the first time and fully committed to it.

February 18

Half day of school, then the kids and I headed to the Museum of Space History.

We watched a film about astronauts training in the ocean. I asked if anyone had “Astronaut in the Ocean” stuck in their head afterward, no takers.

The exhibits were great, Ham, the astronaut chimp, easily stole the show.

Dinner back at the RV was pork and roasted Brussels sprouts.

February 19

Half day of school, then we headed into Ruidoso.

We walked part of the Two Rivers Trail, wandered the strip, and somehow left with tea, olive oil, and a free charcuterie board from Noisy Waters Brewery.

Cal found a shirt with a picture of our actual house on it, which felt oddly specific. Meg grabbed one that pretty much sums up this season, “nomad.”

On the way out of town, we passed a herd of 50–60 elk and then ran into wild horses not long after. Just a casual drive.

Dinner was mac and cheese with hot dogs, followed by saltwater taffy.

February 20

Not our best day.

A little off, a lot of wind, and just one of those days where everything feels harder than it should.

Bethan had her first screenplay consultation with Mr. Phil, which was a bright spot.

Dinner was a TikTok-inspired cheesy enchilada noodle bake, surprisingly solid.

February 21

We drove into Roswell and leaned all the way into it, UFO Museum, alien photos, the whole thing.

Jude’s favorite was the Space Walk. We went through it seven times.

On the way back, we stopped at a Billy the Kid visitor center, because why not add one more storyline to the day.

Dinner was leftover hot dogs.

February 22

Moving day.
